Split | House

Location: Douglas, Cork

Status: Completed

Two interlocking slender blocks maximize the limited space available on a small sloping site in a built-up suburb of Cork City. A split form presents a discrete single storey building to the busy road side offering a buffer of privacy to the occupants while a two storey element emerges as the topography falls sharply. The living spaces on the upper level open up to connect with the trees and sun path while four bedrooms are tucked underneath. A covered balcony clad in Siberian larch provides a sheltered outdoor room and frames a view of the trees.
